Otter Creek is a 10 km north flowing tributary into Surprise Lake. Surprise Lake feeds into Pine Creek, which flows west for 19 kilometers before divulging into Atlin Lake, just south of Atlin town site. The general area of the entire Otter Creek watershed covers some 30 Square kilometers, surrounded low glaciated mountains peaking up to 2000 meters in elevation. The upper sections of the creek are in semi-alpine to alpine terrain with gentle valley slopes and valley floor. The creek valley broadens southwards, where swamps and paternoster lakes prevail. Within the valley floor, a thick blanket cover of glacier-fluvial tills and sands are reported 33 meter depth, (pers. com placer miners, 2014, 2015, 2016). Overburden on Otter Creek valley is thickest in the creek channel itself, and then thins up slope on valley sides, initially as tills, before grading into colluvium cover, finally giving way to rocky summits and ridges (ARIS 36312)
